Planning your sewing
Sometimes it’s fun to get a pile of offcuts and see what happens! When you’re starting out in your sewing journey, putting some time into the planning can help you avoid mistakes and make sure you get the result you’re looking for.
When you’re dressmaking, try reading the list of what you need before you start cutting anything. Does the pattern ask for a zip or interfacing? Do you have matching thread to hand? You can download our Free Dressmaker’s Planning Sheet for prompts
Going through the instructions a few times can increase your confidence in your abilities. It will also help find any problem areas you might want to ask for help on. Remember every sewist you might aspire to be like will have been at the same stage as you at some point!
Lastly, do you have the right tools for the job? Are your scissors sharp and ready to cut? If not, get them sharpened! See our partners page for details if you are local to the shop in Ipswich
